The Challenge
In 2016, Johnson Matthey (JM) launched a global business transformation program, with SAP at its core.
The program had suffered two significant delays, and the incumbent System Integrators were underperforming. JM required independent expertise to stabilise delivery and bring the program back on track. The Transformation Director approached Resulting, having previously worked with the team at EY on an internal SAP program.
Resulting’s independence and strong SAP program management credentials were key factors in securing the engagement through a competitive process.
Resulting Solution
Resulting acted as the business integrator for the program, providing a multidisciplinary team including delivery managers, PMO specialists, functional consultants and change managers.
Functional Team
Within two weeks, Resulting mobilised a full business-side SAP team, combining deep business process expertise with strong SAP configuration knowledge. The team worked closely with the business to articulate requirements and ensure these were delivered by the System Integrator, while maintaining schedule adherence through the design and test phases.
Programme Management Office (PMO)
Resulting led the PMO and deployment for the global template program, defining planning methodologies, tools and reporting. Deliverable tracking was simplified, and the scope was later expanded to include portfolio planning and alignment of resource demand to business priorities across multiple transformation initiatives.
Transition Management
Resulting defined and delivered the transition approach from program delivery into the SAP Centre of Excellence, including the structured handover of releases and ongoing deployment waves.
Change Management and Communications
The focus was on business enablement, combining business readiness and adoption through a Network of Excellence. Resulting also defined and delivered the program communications strategy, including branding, messaging and geographic tailoring.
Strategic Advisory Services
Working directly with the CFO, Resulting provided independent advisory support across several strategic initiatives, including the design and implementation of the Global Process Ownership model and the target operating model.

Benefits Delivered
Resulting supported the replacement of the System Integrator mid-program, maintaining continuity and strengthening governance through independent challenge and “critical friend” support.
The program successfully went live in three countries and transitioned the majority of services to JM’s internal IT team.
While the core engagement ran for two years, Resulting continues to support Johnson Matthey through ongoing optimisation of SAP-enabled processes across Finance, Procurement and Commercial functions, demonstrating a long-standing trusted relationship with the CFO of a FTSE 100 organisation.
